CBN Hockey goes from strength to strength

CBN Hockey Club Juniors Shine with 21 Players Selected for County Teams

CBN Hockey Club is celebrating a fantastic achievement as 21 junior players, from U12 to U17, have been selected for County Teams, with one exceptional player advancing to the North West team and two others attending the North West Academy selection days. This milestone highlights the club’s commitment to developing young talent and marks a proud moment in its journey. The count could even increase, as additional players are still in the trialing process, with decisions expected soon.

Jez, Club Chair and Coach, expressed his delight, saying, “We are thrilled to announce the selection of 21 of our juniors for the County Teams. It’s a remarkable testament to the progress we’re making in junior development, and we couldn’t be prouder of the players.”

CBN Hockey Club’s success is strengthened by its invaluable partnership with Westholme School in Blackburn and its PE department, to whom the club is immensely grateful. “Our partnership with Westholme is going from strength to strength,” noted Jez. “The access to such excellent facilities, along with the support of parents and teachers, has been essential in creating a nurturing environment for our young players.” CBN’s reach is expanding, with over 20 different schools across East and South Lancashire feeding players into the club. Many of these young players, some with only 12 months of experience, are already advancing into county teams, a testament to the power of a supportive and progressive club environment.

As Junior Section Chair, Vicci Evans added, “Well done to all! It’s wonderful to see such strong representation across the club. The dedication from our players, coaches, and families has truly paid off, and this is a fantastic reflection of our club’s progress.”

CBN Hockey Club is also grateful for the recent funding support from Sport England, which will be instrumental in enabling the club to launch its new satellite centres. These satellites are designed to welcome players of all skill levels, providing opportunities for informal hockey and further growing our community within the community. Currently, the club boasts over 200 players and growing! seven senior teams, and junior teams for boys and girls ranging from U8s to U16s.

A special thanks goes to our longstanding sponsor, Evans Vanodine International PLC, whose ongoing support has been invaluable. Their contributions in providing kit, equipment, and financial support has been essential in facilitating coaching for young people from all backgrounds, with a strong focus on grassroots sport.

The coaching team of Hannah, Lee, Marie, Ed, Paul, Mick, Jez and volunteers deserve immense credit for their dedication, as do the Club Committee, team captains, and parents who continuously support our young players.

With a major recruitment drive underway, CBN is looking for new players across all sections and backgrounds, including men’s, ladies’, and junior boys’ and girls’ teams. The club is excited to offer even more opportunities to get involved in this growing community, with the upcoming launch of satellite centres and roles in young leadership, coaching, and umpiring.

Congratulations to everyone involved—this is an outstanding accomplishment that shines a light on the bright future of CBN Hockey Club.
