The first half of the season has seen some great results across all our teams, the Men’s 1s and 2s both play their Hockey in the Barrington Sports North West Hockey League, the league currently has 16 divisions that split into North & South from division 5 down.
The Ladies 1s play their Hockey in Division 2 North, they are currently only 3 divisions from the National League, the Ladies 2s, 3s and 4s all play in the Lancashire league.
The Men’s 1s have set the pace in North West division 4, newly promoted this season and an influx of new players have seen the team pick up maximum points with 12 wins from 12 games, scoring an impressive 87 goals and conceding only 6, they currently sit top of the league 7 points clear of their biggest rivals Bury 1s, the Men’s 1s are also having a great cup run and are through to the semi-finals of the Lancashire trophy.
The Men’s 2s are also having a strong season in North West division 5, after back to back promotions the team didn’t know what to expect from the season ahead but have found their feet from the off, the team have recorded 7 wins from 12 games and are quietly confident they can go for their third consecutive promotion.
The Ladies 1s have had a solid start to their league campaign, currently sitting in 3rd place with 6 wins from 10 games the team are keen to improve their league position after the Christmas Break and push for the top places.
The Ladies 2s have also had a solid start to their season in the Lancashire Premier League, after a couple of shaky performances they threw down a warning to the rest of the teams in the division with a string of fantastic performances that so them beat unbeaten league leaders and title favourites, when the 2s play their game they can beat anyone in there league, currently 4th in the league and only 4 points from the top the team are confident of continuing where they left off.
The Ladies 3s are in the Lancashire second division and have had an excellent start to their season, with 7 wins from 9 games the team currently sit in second place in the league with promotion in sight, an emphatic win in the Lancashire Plate sees them through to the quarter finals in the New Year.
The Ladies 4s are the development side in the club, year on year feeding players up through the other teams, currently playing in the Lancashire third division the team are in 7th place but only 2 points from 4th place, the team which is made up from a mix of junior and senior players are having a great season and are confident of finishing in a top 5 place.
The Ladies O35s Vets who are currently taking part in the National O35s masters cup are having a fantastic campaign, this is the first year they have entered and after a first round bye they travelled to Macclesfield in round 2, a great game so them come away with a 3-1 win, round 3 they got a home draw against a very strong and experienced Wakefield team who boasted the England O35s captain and many other North England Masters players, the Ladies O35s showed why they shouldn’t be underestimated shocking one of the title favourites with a empathic 5-1 win and earning their place in the last 16 of the national competition, they will play Timperley O35s in February at home.
The Mixed 1s start their cup campaign in January with an away trip to Oxton in round 2, after a good run last year the team are confident they can go a long way in the competition after already winning the Division 1 mixed league and tournament over the summer
