Table Tennis back at Blackburn Northern
Table tennis has returned to Blackburn Northern after a gap of over 10 years. Following requests from several members the club management committee decided to sell the club's snooker table and replace it with a table tennis table. This is available for use by all members and can be found in the spare room alongside the member's lounge (access is by club membership card).
Table tennis was once a thriving sporting section at the club with several teams playing in local leagues. The table was originally situated in the recently demolised former tennis changing rooms (later to become Stan's hut). Older members can remember playing under gas lights before electricity was installed some time in the late sixties.
Eventually in the early nineties the old hut had to be shortened to allow for the widening of the first two tennis courts and the room became too small for table tennis. The new location has probably too low a ceiling for competitive matches but the room is certainly large enough for a fun game. Call in have a go.
